About the Chamber
MISSION STATEMENT

To provide leadership that fosters growth and prosperity in the Breaux Bridge area so as to ensure that this community is the best place to operate and grow a business, as well as the most desirable place to live, visit, work, and play.

                                                ______________

The Breaux Bridge Chamber of Commerce was formed in 1972 to better assist businesses interested in locating to the area.  At that time, the population of Breaux Bridge was approximately 4,000, and the main industries were sugar, rice, and soybean.  With the construction of Interstate 10 in 1973, the City of Breaux Bridge became the center of commerce, with unprecedented access to surrounding parishes and metropolitan areas.

Today, Breaux Bridge has a population of approximately 8,100 and is the fastest growing city in St. Martin Parish, with an overall increase of 10% from 1990 to 2000.   With growth and development came a new hospital, a public and private school system, a number of religious, fraternal, social, and civic clubs, and facilities for cultural, recreational, and social activities.  Evidence of this prosperity are the many real estate and commercial developments underway, as well as, an increase in financial institutions locating to the city.

One of Breaux Bridge's main attractions is its cuisine - especially that of crawfish.  The restaurants of Breaux Bridge were the first to offer crawfish on their menus.  It was here that the famous crawfish etouffee was created.  Although crawfish were served in restaurants in the early 1920's, this famous crustacean did not gain world-wide recognition until 1959 when Breaux Bridge, celebrating the Centennial of its incorporation, was designated the "CRAWFISH CAPITAL OF THE WORLD" by the Louisiana State Legislature.  Today, Breaux Bridge is world famous for its preparation of this delicacy.

Through it all, the Breaux Bridge Chamber of Commerce has maintained its dedication to the betterment and improvement of the area business community.  We are here to show you why Breaux Bridge is a great place to live, work, and raise a family!
